We have written in the past about different times where you may not need to purchase bail bonds. For example, if you have the money to bail yourself out of jail, you might consider that as an option, but it’s also important to think about what will happen after you get out if you spend all of your money on bail. At the end of the day, the decision is entirely up to you what you choose to do, but it depends on each unique situation what the best move will be.

In today’s post, we’ll take a look at a couple of different times where you should actively avoid the use of a particular bail bondsman. What will those scenarios look like? Keep reading to find out!

A Few Times You Should Search for a New Bondsman

If They’re Ambulance Chasers

You’ll certainly want to avoid a bondsman who is an ambulance chaser. What we mean by that is if you meet a bondsman at the courthouse, he or she should probably be avoided. That’s not to say that a bondsman won’t be at the courthouse or at a jail, but if he or she is there specifically to try to help someone who has just been arrested…well, they might be trying to solicit your business, and that’s illegal. Avoid someone who does this at all costs.

If They Are Harassing You

If your loved one has recently been arrested and you get an offer from a bail bondsman offering his services, this is just as illegal as the situation mentioned above. You don’t want to be harassed by a bondsman who treats you like he is making a sales call. If this happens, let them know that you’ve already found a bondsman and that they should not call anymore. Block the number they are calling from if need be and be sure to let your bondsman know about what is going on.

If They’re Not Licensed

Last, but certainly not least, is that you should avoid a bail bondsman who isn’t licensed to be doing that type of work. Of course the laws vary from state to state, but it’s always going to be in your best interest to do a bit of research regarding a bail bond agency to see if they are legit or not. For instance, if you hear about someone who can bail you out from a friend of a friend, but this person only does this type of work on the side, realize that you might be getting into a rather shady situation and take your business elsewhere.
